Our Graduate Programme
Finance
What does Finance do?
The Finance team consists of Central Finance and Divisional Finance, who provide a wide range of services to internal Bank customers. While in the Finance team, you’ll spend time in Financial Reporting & Control and Divisional Finance. Financial Reporting & Control is responsible for producing financial reports and information to meet the requirements of the Board, shareholders and the management team. They provide for the management of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts and produce all statutory and regulatory financial reporting. Divisional Finance work with the strategic business and service units as a trusted financial partner with regards to the analytical and reporting requirements and value-add activities for both Finance and the Business.
What will I do on the Finance programme?
You will spend time in the key areas of Management Information, Statutory Reporting and Divisional Finance, building on your accounting knowledge and getting to know the ASB business. You will develop your management and financial reporting skills and gain exposure to budgeting and forecasting. While working with the Finance Business Partners, you will get to experience many areas across the ASB.
You will also spend three months in a customer-facing business unit + three months in a Risk function in the Bank.

Relationship Banking
What does Relationship Banking do?
Relationship Banking manages high value customers within the Commercial and Rural markets. The Commercial Banking Segment and Operations & Risk are the two major teams within Relationship Banking that will be your home for the next 2 years. The Commercial Segment team develops strategy to enhance and grow ASB’s share of this valuable market. The Operations & Risk team provides oversight, ensures compliance, implements risk and process changes, and manages the operational and credit risk framework for the division.
What will I do on the Relationship Banking programme?
The focus will be to develop your analytical skills and learn about the intricacies of the Commercial segment; perform data analysis to help with strategy implementation; work with Marketing to deliver targeted communications to the Commercial market (including Maori Banking); and work with the frontline to develop tools, campaigns and initiatives to help grow target segments. In addition, you will learn about the operational risk management framework; what risks eventuate in our business units; how risk is mitigated; investigate risk incidents; and develop new processes and implement these changes in the wider business unit.
You will also spend three months in a customer-facing business unit getting to know our Customers, Colleagues and Communities + three months in a Risk function in the Bank.

Wealth
What does Wealth do?
The Wealth business at ASB includes ASB Securities, Aegis and Wealth Management & Private Banking. ASB Securities offers equity trading, fixed interest trading and a margin lending service through its telephone and internet broking teams. It also provides market updates. Aegis is a platform that provides electronic administration services designed to hold, trade and report on portfolios of investments on behalf of financial advisers. Wealth Management & Private Banking looks after our high value customers to create, manage and protect their wealth.
What will I do on the Wealth programme?
Working in a client-facing role and in a business analyst role, you will get an overview of the wealth businesses at ASB. You will also gain an understanding of how financial markets work as well as the financial services industry in New Zealand.
You will also spend three months in a customer-facing business unit + three months in a Risk function in the Bank.

Audit
What does Audit do?
The Audit & Assurance (A&A) function assists the business in achieving its strategic objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to independently evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal controls. Audit is an excellent training ground for people who want to build their knowledge of risk and control, as well as gaining broad exposure to many areas of the business.
What will I do on the Audit programme?
You will spend time in both the Practice function and the Delivery team over the two years you are in Audit.
In the Practice function, you will be learning from and assisting the Data Analytics Manager and the data analytics champions in the Delivery team. You will be developing and executing analytics to identify internal control weaknesses on audits, as well as developing and improving internal tools/spreadsheets that assist with the day-to-day management of the A&A function. Accordingly, sound analytical skills will be a necessity for the manipulation of data.
In the Delivery team, you will work as a graduate auditor, undertaking planning and execution of audit assignments that touch upon a wide range of business processes.
You will also spend three months in a customer-facing business unit (for example, in our one of our branches) getting to know our Customers, Colleagues and Communities + three months in a Risk or Finance function in the Bank.

3) We'll call and have a chat about you and Future Me
4) You'll attend an assessment centre day in Auckland, which will include an interview
5) We'll complete reference checks, a pre-employment security check and a credit check
6) If you've passed steps 1) through 5) with flying colours, we'll be making you an offer!
