Engineering Stream

In the South Pacific, BOC and its subsidiary company, Elgas, offer graduate opportunities in the following Engineering streams;

  • Tonnage Engineering
  • Merchant & Packaged Gas Engineering

Tonnage (Bulk) Engineering Stream

Tonnage is an environment of large chemical processes and production facilities, 24 hour operation, supplying high volumes of quality gas products to most sectors of Industry across Australia and New Zealand.

If you enjoy creating efficiencies and implementing new projects within the Industrial Gases industry, then Tonnage Engineering is the stream for you. You are someone who enjoys delivering results through a variety of engineering activities - from design through to commissioning and operation of production plants.

Locations

Metropolitan and regional locations throughout Australia and New Zealand

Some of the opportunities could include:

  • Process safety reviews
  • Process design
  • Plant operation, commissioning and improvement projects
  • Process & machinery support, troubleshooting and development of engineering change documents
  • Field instrumentation and process control improvements
  • Safety, quality and environmental engineering
  • Plant maintenance strategy ( incl. leading edge condition based maintenance, asset management systems) and implementation for pressure equipment, large compressors, pumps and turbines, electrical drives, HV & LV
  • Shut down planning and execution
  • Development of business cases for plant investment

Merchant and Packaged Gas Engineering Stream

Our Merchant and Packaged Gas Stream is ideal for Mechanical, Mechatronics or Chemical Engineers who enjoy working in a team to solve problems and deliver results for customers whilst ‘on the run’!

Locations

Metropolitan areas and operations sites across WA, QLD, VIC, SA, NSW and NZ.

Some of the opportunities could include:

  • Plant improvement and engineering projects
  • Site based safety – process safety evaluation / improvements
  • Gas Packaging Plant operation
  • Productivity, troubleshooting and development of engineering change management
  • Addressing actions arising from packaging plant audits (safety, quality, environmental, engineering)
  • Assisting with development of maintenance philosophy, spares strategies

BOC Graduate Development Programme

As a BOC Graduate you will be given real responsibilities on real projects. The versatility of the two year program will see you rotating through 6 - 9month placements across Australia and/or New Zealand that are not just designed for you but in collaboration with you. After all, we believe the best way to learn is to give you responsibility from day one and provide a support network to help you develop your career.

The Programme consists of:

  • One week Corporate Induction
  • Annual week long offsite “Graduate Development Week” that will focus on further developing your presentation, communication skills and leadership skills as well as personal development and team-building with your graduate peer group
  • Early opportunities for responsibility and allows you to apply your knowledge
  • An Individual Development Plan and formal 6monthly reviews
  • Rotational Assignments across Australia/NZ (most streams) with relocation assistance
  • Senior Leader as your designated mentor
  • A Buddy program with previous graduates
  • Graduate Alumni, opportunity for representation on the Graduate Steering Committee
  • Breadth of experience in a global company across a range of business units

Requirements

What are we looking for?

We are looking for graduates with strong team and communication skills, well-rounded in their balance between academic studies and involvement in extracurricular activities. Graduates who are ready to take the lead!

It is essential that you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency at the time of application. You are also someone who is excited by the opportunity to travel and are prepared to relocate through the two year programme.

Tertiary Qualifications we look for:

Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering

Application Procedures

Applications open mid June and close midnight Sunday 7th August 2011.

Assessment Centres will be held the week beginning 5th September 2011. Transport costs associated with your attendance at Assessment Centres will be covered by BOC.

The Programme commences late January 2012 for a two year period with opportunity for permanent roles within BOC/Elgas at the end of the two years.
