BWR Staff Profiles
Cory Janssen
- Born and raised in Hawke's Bay
- St Johns college from 1999 to 2004
- EIT first year full time in 2005 then in 2006 started working at BWR as a junior
- Play soccer for Napier City Rovers
- Jetski racing and wake boarding
Cory Janssen first attended the local Eastern Institute of Technology for a year before perusing his career in Accounting at Brown Webb Richardson (BWR) in 2006 as a junior accountant. As well as working and part time study he shares his passion with jet skiing, wakeboarding and scoring goals for his local soccer club.
"The first year was a huge learning curve for me, like learning a new language, but the staff at BWR are very understanding of the junior role and showed great patience in teaching me the art of accounting."
BWR have a vast variety of staff that are extremely knowledgeable in all different aspects of accounting. Being taught by these people has allowed me to gain experience, learn, and develop my skills far greater then any learning institute could ever do.
"By being in a medium sized firm you feel as though your work actually contributes to the success of BWR, rather then being another number in a larger firm". BWR has ample room to ‘climb the corporate ladder' and are always encouraging me to do so in my learning and providing challenging jobs to extend my experience and understanding of accounting.
I have succeeded in coming a long way in a short time and I owe my success to BWR for kick starting my career. In the space of 3 years, I have moved out of the junior role to a position where I manage a list of clients and assist in the section management. This position has allowed me to learn a different side to accounting by challenging me in my management and interpersonal skills.
Brown Webb Richardson's vision is to be Hawke's Bay's leading Chartered Accountancy practice, their values are professionalism, relationships, enjoyment, pioneering and to do our best. Being part of the BWR team has inspired me to work towards this vision and has allowed me to take on their values in my work and at a personal level.
