It is important to us that you meet your goal of becoming a chartered accountant. Our graduate programme is the ideal first step towards a career with one of New Zealand’s successful professional services firms.

Experience
Filing and tea making aren’t high on the agenda for our graduates. Instead, you will experience first hand how an accountant works in the professional CA environment. You’ll be exposed to realistic work experience and participate in assignments for a wide variety of clients. All graduates receive specialised training as well as mentoring from a supervisor or manager.
Feedback
You will receive regular feedback on progress, both formal and informal, which will enable you to improve your skills. Each year, every team member is formally appraised which ensures that you’re on track to achieving the goals that are relevant to you and the firms strategic direction.

Summer Interns
Contemplating your future? Need help deciding whether the Grant Thornton environment is right for you? Then come and experience Grant Thornton New Zealand’s summer intern programme.
The programme runs annually in Auckland from late November to mid-February and provides the perfect opportunity to experience life as an auditor or business adviser.
What will I be doing?
You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience as a key member of the Audit or Privately Held Business team.
Our interns participate in
- Assisting on client assignments
- On-the-job training
- Attending team member meetings and functions (including team building events)
- Shadowing team members
- Generally helping out around the firm and getting to know people

So you’ve completed your degree, but your education doesn’t end there. You need to align yourself with a company that knows how fundamental learning and development is to your progress in the industry.

Induction
Your first few weeks with us will be spent in our national induction programme. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow graduates and to learn about the inner workings of Grant Thornton. You’ll meet your team, spend time with their partners, learn about the other divisions and find out more about the firm in general.
Our audit graduates spend an additional week in Australia to continue their specific audit training.
Buddy system
You’ll meet your buddy during induction. They’ll help ease the transition into your new working environment and will be available to answer any questions you have. Buddies provide you with a network so you can integrate into the firm as seamlessly as possible.
Mentor programme
Your mentor will provide assistance as you work to achieve your CA qualification and ad- vance your career. Mentoring programmes operate throughout a number of levels, allowing team members the opportunity to further develop themselves and talk through any issues that may arise with a more senior person. We encourage you to maximise the time spent with your mentor so you can realise your full potential.

We look for the right people to fit within our organisation and to interact with our clients. You need to have a passion for business accounting as well as an aptitude for dealing with people, building relationships and working collaboratively in a team.

Yes, Auckland applicants who have been offered a position or invited to attend an interview with us will be invited to our presentation evening at Grant Thornton House, Auckland.
Who will interview me?
In most cases, your first interview will be with a member of our Human Resources team. A manager and/or partner will conduct the second interview. This ensures you have the opportunity to get to know a variety of our Grant Thornton team.
How do I prepare for my interview?
The key is to be yourself. Listen carefully to the questions being asked, consider your responses, don’t rush, and feel free to ask if you don’t understand a question. The interview is a two-way process where we get to know you and you have an opportunity to ask questions about Grant Thornton New Zealand.
