Advisory

Our Advisory team tackles a range of critical business challenges – from improving business performance, to actively managing risk. It’s a major growth area for our firm.

There are three teams within our Advisory division: Management Consulting, Risk Consulting and Transactions & Restructuring.

When you join the Advisory team, you’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering services that reflect the changing circumstances of our clients and the markets in which they operate. You could find yourself working on anything from advising a business on their IT strategy, to working on a forensic court case.

It’s great for:

Here’s all you need to know about submitting your application.

Apply for KPMG Ace the CaseThe first thing to remember is our closing date for applications is 18 March 2012. That’s important – you really don’t want to miss this date! 

You’ll notice the way we do our recruitment is a bit different too. Instead of the usual CV-and-interview process, we’ll be inviting you to experience an interactive challenge called Ace the Case [link to the Ace the Case tab. 

How our recruiting process works

Meet us. Look out for the KPMG recruitment team at your university careers fair [link to Key dates tab], where you can chat to current graduates and summer interns about their experiences at KPMG. 

Decide whether KPMG seems like a good fit, and have a think about which division of the firm you’d like to work for.

Apply online. We’re opening our applications on 1 March 2012. Make sure you’ve got your CV, cover letter and academic transcript to us before 18 March 2012. It’s good idea to put in a request now for an official university academic transcript – you’ll need this for your application.

Talk to us. If we think you look like a good KPMG fit, based on your application, we’ll call you for a chat about your work, life and study experiences. This will happen not long after applications close – so be prepared for the call! We’ll also ask you to send us a photo of yourself.

Online testing. If you come across well on the phone and we want to progress you, we’ll send you a link to do a numerical and verbal online test. You’ll need to complete this within 24 hours of receiving it, so make sure you find a quiet space and time. 

Invitation to Ace the Case. This is where it gets exciting. Based on your results so far, you may be invited to take part in Ace the Case. The invitation will be by phone. You will choose whether you come to Auckland or Wellington, depending on your KPMG office of preference. 

If your preference is Auckland, Tauranga or Hamilton then your Ace the Case programme will be held in Auckland. Those applying to Wellington or Christchurch will have their Ace the Case in Wellington. 

Ace the Case. This two-day workshop is a fantastic learning opportunity. You’ll learn how to read and interpret a business case, meet lots of KPMG staff, and have fun working in teams. We finish up with a cocktail party.

Interview. This is the final stage. If you’re selected, you’ll be interviewed at your office of choice and given a tour of the building. Once again, come prepared to tell us about the great things you’ve done, and the lessons you’ve learned so far.

The offer. All offers will be made by letter before Easter, 6 April 2012. Good luck.

Show us how you’d ace our case

We like to walk-the-talk at KPMG and we figure our future grads will too.

That’s why our recruitment process is based on a practical, live challenge called Ace the Case. You’ll get to demonstrate how you go about solving problems, critically analysing information, performing under pressure and working as part of a team.

Ace the Case is an enjoyable and social experience. It’s also a fantastic learning opportunity. 

On day one: A KPMG team will help you plan, write, and debrief a case and give you tips on case presentation skills. You’re then assigned into a group and given a case to analyse – one that’s based on an actual business scenario.

On day two: The following day, your group will present their case before a judging panel and your peers. To wrap up, we celebrate with a cocktail party.

It’s free to enter, and we’ll pay your travel costs if you’re coming from out of town. Ace the Case will be held in KPMG offices on the following dates:

Auckland: Saturday 24 March and Sunday 25 March 2012 (For those people who would like to work in Auckland, Hamilton or Tauranga)           

Wellington: Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April 2012 (For those people who would like to work in Wellington or Christchurch)
